Trump Targets South Korea’s Instability Ahead of White House Summit
By : Mahi
Donald Trump blasted South Korea’s political instability just hours before meeting President Lee Jae Myung at the White House.
On social media, Trump wrote, “WHAT IS GOING ON IN SOUTH KOREA? Seems like a purge or revolution. We can’t have that for business.”
The sharp remarks came before a high-stakes summit set to discuss trade, defense, and South Korea’s massive US investments.
Just weeks ago, the two nations avoided a tariff war by sealing a last-minute trade deal, capping duties at 15% on Korean goods.
Washington, however, remains unhappy. US officials now hint the tariff agreement may be “too favorable” to South Korea.
President Lee warned mid-flight that Korea “cannot accept unilateral attempts to reopen a deal already signed by both sides.”
Defense cooperation is another thorny issue, with the US pushing Seoul to commit more alongside trade and investment talks.
South Korea earlier pledged $350 billion in US investments. Around $150 billion in new projects may be announced in Washington.
