Kathy Griffin Apologizes for Past Jokes About Anna Nicole Smith

Comedian Kathy Griffin has apologized for the way she joked about Anna Nicole Smith in her stand-up routines years ago.

In a YouTube video, the Emmy-winning comedian admitted she was often “vicious” toward Smith during the ‘90s and 2000s.

Griffin said she impersonated Smith by slurring her words in acts and Bravo specials, reflecting her troubled public struggles.

She described Smith as “one of the greatest beauties of any generation,” but also a woman deeply hurt and abused by the industry.

Griffin recalled filming The Anna Nicole Show Christmas special with Margaret Cho, Rip Taylor, and the late wrestler Chyna.

The comedian admitted she loved Smith but didn’t always know how she would react to being part of her act and jokes.

Calling the era a “terrible time for women,” Griffin reflected on how comedy in the ‘90s and 2000s was especially harsh.

Her final memory of Smith was warm: the star smiled, waved, and greeted her with a simple “Hi, Kathy,” at an awards show.
