Delta Air Lines Cuts Key Austin Route: Refunds Available

By : Mahi

Delta Air Lines is cutting flights to Austin, Texas, pulling out of one regional market entirely after low passenger demand.

Austin, known for its booming music, food, and tech scene, grew rapidly, but not all new airline routes attracted enough travelers.

Between 2013 and 2023, Austin’s metro population soared from 1.6 to 2.3 million, driving airlines to add dozens of new routes.

American, Delta, Virgin Atlantic, Aeromexico, and Lufthansa once expanded flights to Austin but later downsized after weak demand.

Delta is now ending its Austin–Midland route. The last flight will operate November 8, closing service at Midland’s airport.

The Midland International Air & Space Port was approved for small space missions, but mostly serves rural West Texas and New Mexico.

The Austin–Midland flight, launched in April 2024, ran up to three times daily on Embraer E175 jets but never gained enough traction.

Passengers with booked tickets after November 8 will be contacted by Delta. Refunds will be issued under the airline’s policy.
